Today’s summer engagement shoot of Maddie & Alex took place at Palmerville Heritage Park.
I have to say, one point it felt we would never get the session done.
Having had already postponed once due to bad weather.
A 2nd postponement was looking like a possibility. It started to bucket down hours before we were to meet up.
An hour before we were to meet. The clouds cleared and the intense summer sun dried the ground enough to go ahead.
Crazy summer weather!
It’s the downside of photographing outside. But the reward is huge when the weather plays nice.
So it was an understatement, to say i was relieved for the session to ahead and to finally meeting them both.
Most of my couples choose locations near Lake Burley Griffin or somewhere else on the south of Canberra. Such as Yarralumla or the Arboretum.
So I was keen to see what their location on the North side of Canberra had to offer.
I was pleasantly surprised. Maddie & Alex’s local knowledge paid off, choosing an excellent location.
From the car park it doesn’t look like much.
But once you start walking the well defined path that splits the park in two, you start to realize the potential.
Old oak trees, a little grove with a creek and bridge. There’s even a memorial forest, every tree planted dedicated to someone who passed away.
Maddie & Alex were some of the easiest couples I’ve photographed since moving to Canberra.
They were comfortable with each other. And they both took direction well.
I liked how they both joked around and didn’t take themselves seriously.
Which is perfect for me as i’m bit of a clown during portrait sessions. And I like to crack a few jokes to light the mood.
Producing candid looking photos from their engagement shoot was a breeze.
Some simple suggestions and placing them in the gorgeous natural afternoon light is all they needed.
Plus It didn’t take long to get the photos they wanted. Normally the session would go for up to 2 hrs.
We didn’t need that long. After a couple of casual laps of the park, talking and laughing and of course some photos. It took us less than an hour.
Such a cool laid back couple. From the moment we met I could see they were meant for each other and very much in love.
Plus they laughed at all my jokes, so they are ok in my books 🙂
