I love photographing weddings of all types, it doesn’t matter if it’s a small wedding or a big lavish wedding with over 400 people. Photographically I treat all weddings the same.
Sometimes my bride and grooms are not after a big wedding, sometimes they just want the basics of a wedding and the photography to match.
Take Ian and Jenny’s backyard wedding. 20 of their family and friends, witnessed their wedding ceremony at their Canberra home, followed by a catered lunch afterwards.
For this small backyard wedding they only requested 1 hour of photographic coverage. The ceremony was about 15 min so I tried to squeeze as much photography on top of the ceremony.
Which meant that we could photograph the ceremony, family photos and some bride and groom portraits in their beautiful garden.
It did rain on their wedding day, Which meant that they couldn’t have the ceremony in their back garden as originally planned.
As would you know it, it started to rain hard during the year ceremony. If you are superstitious, It is in fact good luck and it signifies the cleansing of tough times or sadness.
Thankfully it did stop raining long enough, for us to be able to take some photos of just the two of them in the garden.
Photos that they could look back and see how happy they were on their wedding day, other than just the ceremony itself.
Like most couples they weren’t in to poisoning. So what I did was chose a small portion of the garden, which didn’t show any of the neighboring houses. And I proceeded to make then laugh 🙂
You can see that there poses are very natural and it shows how much they’re enjoying each other’s company.
Not every wedding has to be this big elaborate experience. Sometimes the simple things are what we really need.
